This week I have the pleasure to introduce you all to the beautiful Jezabelle from SV Dos Libras! Welcome Jezabelle!
1. Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I was 13 years old when my Humans brought me to live in the floating house. I was born under a house in a rural town in Texas but my circumstances improved greatly when the young human insisted on bringing me to her palace. The Head Human already had a cat… a black one who was IMHO mentally unstable. She and I never got along and I took every opportunity to put her in her place. Anyway… more about ME. I consider myself to be Queen and am beholden only to the Head Human as her man is my slave. He feeds me and I swat at him when he tries to take my place in the bed every night. Many people think I am beautiful and I quite agree. Although I am mature… I am still very fit and healthy and attribute much of that to my lifestyle.
2. How do you spend an average day of your life?
Average day begins between 4 and 5 am at which time I hear the humans’ breathing change signifying that one or the other of them have regained consciousness. I paw at them and purr loudly to let them know I’m ready for breakfast and that it’s time to get up. My Man puts fresh food in my bowl and I lick the gravy, then I go back and join my Woman in our bed. She is holding the tiny moving screen thing and not paying attention to me. I love to get under the covers where her legs make a nice tent for me to hide until I’m ready to face the day. I paw at the covers until she raises them to grant me entrance. Sometimes things fall apart at this point and everyone gets moving and our house gets loud and begins to move. On those days, I go into the upstairs sunroom and sit on a cushion out of the wind. But on days when the house does not move, I pretty much sit in the sunroom until it gets too hot, then I move back to my room and sleep. If the humans are doing something interesting I might supervise for some time to make sure that they are getting things right. I like to peek into dark spaces when they take up the floors or open cubbies normally closed to me. Sometimes the humans leave me alone. I mostly sleep but when I hear them return in the tiny floating box I greet them at the door and pretend that I missed them terribly… but it’s just because I was worried that they may have forgotten my dinnertime. In the evenings we sit together most days and watch the big warm ball disappear again. I like sitting on my Woman’s lap but the Man’s lap will do in a pinch.Throughout the day when my humans come into the sunroom, I tell them loudly that I am ready for food that comes from the bottle out there. They say it is the same stuff that’s in my bowl downstairs but I don’t believe it. It tastes MUCH better when doled out in small quantities multiple times throughout the day. After the humans have dinner, they join me in our bed and our nightly ritual begins. I sit on my side of the bed until the man comes to take my spot. I wait until they are settled and I climb onto the hammock between their legs in the warm spot near their bum… It’s a nice life.
3. What’s your favourite thing to do to?
My favorite thing to do is to doze in the sunny spot on my chair in the sunroom.
4. Tell us about who you live with? Do you like them?
I live with my Woman. I like her and almost never bite her because she pops me on the head when I do. Sometimes it is necessary like when she pets my back too long or something like that. My Man… well he feeds me most of the time, so there’s that. But I really like to bite him. Keeps him in his place. What I really like the most is how much time they spend with me now that we live on the floating house… The Woman used to be gone all day long when we had the palace. The Man was in and out but often gone. Now we go days and days without parting. I like that.
5. Do you prefer spending time on land or on the boat?
Living in the palace was nice. I never went outside there, never wanted to. But now that we live on in the floating house I have discovered the joy of the great outdoors. I can come and go at will, spending time in the sunroom or doing my daily walk-about on the deck. It is lovely being able to choose and I feel very safe from bad things here. Who needs all that space we once had? All I need is my comfy spots and I’m a happy cat. Oh, and laps. I love sitting on laps. Sometimes we butt up against land and it gets a bit scary. Strangers walk near our house and I don’t like that. I have tested my land legs on the wooden walkway a couple of times but there are scary things there, so I’m going to say I prefer being on the water in my safe home.
6. Where’s your favourite place on the boat?
My favorite place on the boat is my bed. Second is the sunroom and if it’s on someone’s lap, even better.
7. Do you ever get sea-sick? How do you overcome it if you do?
Sometimes my tummy feels bad. It usually coincides with times that our home is pitching and tossing in a random fashion. This doesn’t happen often and when the motion lines out I feel better…after losing my lunch. Then I’m hungry again. I pretty much poop a little, toss cookies a little, then I go to sleep. I used to remain below when the house moves but I have discovered that it’s better in the sunroom. I have found my spot out of the wind and spray and I sleep through most passages. I will tell you about my crowning achievement. My humans call it “tacking”. When the Woman tells the Man that we are going to tack, he moves into position to move things around. She says “helm’s over” and the boat rocks from one side to the other with a lot of noise. My part is to wait until the boat is upright, at which time I hop to the floor and onto the opposite side where I quickly fall back to sleep. This makes my ride more comfortable and I’m quite good at finding my comfort.
8. What’s the strangest thing you’ve ever seen whilst sailing?
Strangest thing I’ve seen? Gosh, it’s all very strange. I guess it puzzles me when the humans climb down from the back of our floating house into the water and float around. Why would anyone want to do that???
9. What’s the worst thing you’ve ever done? (Don’t be shy it’s good to get it out in the open.)
I am ashamed to say that sometimes I get a dingleberry and go straight to my bed to scoot my bottom along the top sheet in my attempt to dislodge the thing. My Woman makes a lot of noise and has to spend a lot of time cleaning the top sheet. She gets very mad at me but I can’t help it…
10. What do you think your next big adventure in life will be?
I have no concept of tomorrow so I’m not sure how to answer that. I hear my humans talk about moving us from the Bahamas down to the Caribbean… they look at books and are definitely planning something. My Woman tells me that I’m a world traveler but it all looks the same to me…
11. If somebody asked you for advice and you only had a few minutes to give them your best tip, what would it be?
My advice would be to remain above decks when the house moves, it’s much nicer than down below…. and never let your humans think they are above you.
12. Do you have a website or social media channel where we can follow your future adventures?
My Woman’s blog: http://www.thingswedidtoday.net Thanks for including me in your project. I dream of meeting you some day Bailey!
Thank you so much Jezabelle for telling us all about your lifestyle. Thank you to your humans for the beautiful photos too. I really hope I can meet you too one day! I’d love to go to the Caribbean one day, if I can convince my humans I might see you there!
Happy Caturday evfurryone!
