Caturday Connections – beautiful boat cat Lily!

Furiends I’m very happy to introduce you to Lily, she’s a young lilac point Siamese and my very first guest on Caturday Connections. She lives by the seaside in sunny Malta and spends every weekend out on her boat ‘Dinah’. Her humans (Catherine & Barry) are both Irish, but Lily is very proud of her Maltese passport. Their boat ‘Dinah’ is Irish like mine and she’s Siamese like me! It’s going to be a pawesome interview!

1. Tell us a little bit about yourself.

My name is Lily and I’m a lilac point Siamese. I’m not a full time boat cat like you Bailey, but I do live by the seaside in sunny Malta and I spend every weekend out on our boat ‘Dinah’. My longest trip so far was a cruise to Linosa at the end of last summer, but next season I’m going to sail round Sicily and visit the Aeolian Islands.

2. How do you spend an average day of your life?

I have to confess I do like a good snooze. I still haven’t quite figured out which one of my beds is the best, so I like to check them all at least once a day. That keeps me pretty busy! On hot days I hang out in the garden chatting to the local birds, but during the winter it’s quite nice to sit by the fire.

3. What’s your favourite thing to do to?

Believe it or not I love to play fetch! It seems to keep my humans happy and I do like to keep them exercised, so whenever they throw my stick I run after it and bring it back to them. If they’re not paying close attention or feeling lazy I scratch their shoes to remind them that they need more exercise and they throw it again.

4. Tell us about who you live with? Do you like them?

When I was really young a year and a half ago I adopted two humans, Catherine and Barry. They’re both from Ireland so we fly an Irish flag on the back of ‘Dinah’ to let people know they don’t have Maltese passports like me. I allow them to live with me in the house, and usually I let them steer the boat while I look after the navigation. They’re useful for warming the big bed during the winter, but during the summer they get really silly and they often jump into the water! Madness…

5. Do you prefer spending time on land or on the boat?

I love being on the boat, but we have to spend time on land too because during the week I send my humans out to work so they can keep my treats cupboard full. Sometimes the weekends go too fast though, so now I’ve learned to recognise when we’re approaching the marina and I go hide down below so we stay on the boat a little longer.

6. Where’s your favourite place on the boat?

I’ve found that if I spread myself out across the top step of the companionway then I can keep an eye on everything on deck as well as down below. The step is slightly curved which helps me stay put even when the boat is rolling from side to side. Being there also reminds my humans that I’m in charge and they have to ask nicely every time they want to go up or down. As soon as we drop the anchor though I like to be looking over the side at all the fish in the clear water.

7. I’m sorry to lower the tone, but as a boat cat myself one of the top questions I get asked is…Do you ever get sea-sick?

I’ve never been seasick, even in big waves. I do have to be careful not to get too hot though because that would make me ill. Having a big fur coat in such a warm country can be tiresome!

8. What’s the strangest thing you’ve ever seen whilst sailing?

Dolphins! They’re silly splashy creatures and I don’t like them very much. In fact I usually go below whenever they’re around. Once last summer I saw a big turtle too. He wasn’t very chatty, but he was cool.

9. What’s the worst thing you’ve ever done? (Don’t be shy it’s good to get it out in the open.)

At Christmas time I ate one of the bright lights from the tree. My humans weren’t very pleased so I probably won’t do it again. I did get a little shock when I was biting it off but it was worth it!

10. What do you think your next big adventure in life will be?

My humans have a big new fishing rod and they keep saying I’ll get a surprise when they land a big tuna. I like surprises! I don’t see what all the fuss is about really since even a big tuna must be pretty small to fit in those cans. I do love a tuna treat though, so I’ll play along and act surprised when they finally catch one.

11. If somebody asked you for advice and you only had a few minutes to give them your best tip, what would it be?

On really hot days I get my humans to keep a damp towel in the fridge. It’s lovely to wrap up in it a few times a day and it stops me overheating. They used to pour water over me whenever I would start to pant, but I didn’t like that very much. A cold towel is much easier for everybody.

12. Do you have a website or social media channel where we can follow your future adventures?

I read your blog every week, but I’m a little shy so I don’t usually post on the internet myself. Maybe I’ll start when we go on our long cruise this summer. I’ll let you know if I do!

Thank you so much Lily for being a pawesome first guest. Thank you to her human Barry too for sharing the beautiful photos with us. I think you deserve a good cat nap now Lily!

All of you who also expressed an interest in pawticipating, thank you, I’m going to get to all of you ASAP. It will be easier once my staff get back from their holiday.

Happy Caturday evfurryone!

Bisous, Bailey

  16. Hello Bailey!
What a beautiful furiend you have made; I think you will agree with me, Lily is the sexiest boatcat we have seen in all our 9 lives!
Did you ask her, off the record, if she is pawsibly a model for the travel mag, Conde Naste? I wonder too, would she consider pawsing for the ‘Bailey-fan’, highly anticipated
“Round the World with Bailey & Furiends” calendar? (I know, I know, it’s pawsibly out of the question but one cat can dream). She should sooo be Miss Dreamy December. Anyway, I would be so happy for you, if you remain in touch with her – I myself, find an occasional desire fur the feline purr, although I really love the touch & sound of my humans.
Thank you for furtually taking me to your furavorite places; I await your next communication with ‘baited’ breath (I say as I lick tuna residue off my delicate wiskers). #yummers (there really should be cat-tags.)
    A bientot mon ami.
