New outboard = rowing home!

We’ve invested in a new outboard!

Dad surprised mum with it yesterday. It’s a Mercury 3.5 hp Four Stroke which has only been used once and we got it for less than half price! It’s nice and light to put on the dinghy quickly, and will be a lot easier for mum and any visiting kids to use. I think I’ll like it better too because I’m not keen on going too fast.

Isn’t it cute!

Mum still gets a bit scared with our new Suzuki 15 hp Four Stroke. She really struggles to start it and it’s power is a bit intimidating for her.

The Suzuki outboard weighs around 45 kg so they used the boom as a crane with a lazy Jim to lift it off the dinghy so they could try out the new one.

Then the newly named Elliot, who weighs around 18 kg, got lowed on and put into place! Dad named the Suzuki Emily the engine because he was soo in love with her when we got her, so this new one is mums new love and has been given a boys name!

The only trouble was after they had gone out to test it out, they realised there was a problem which dad thought was due to the fuel. Since its only been used once and then been sitting still for over a year, the humans really should’ve changed the full before they went out because they hadn’t got far when it stopped and refused to start again!

This made my mum laugh a lot because they then had to row back to Nocturne. By they… I mean my dad with her laughing and taking pictures!

Dad’s been on the case and drained the old fuel as suspected there was a lot of water in it.

The fuels been replaced and they are off out for another spin now! Paws crossed it’s all fixed for when I go down next week!
