Visit to the vets – twice in two days!

I have good news furiends! I don’t have the nasty parasite Giardia, that April has!

Dancing for joy!

I did, however, have to have my vaccinations today.

Thank you to all of you that wrote to me yesterday with well wishes for us both and to all of you who suggested that the vets check me for hyperthyroidism. Unfortunately they’ve already disposed of my blood, (silly humans) and after yesterday’s performance when I had to be sedated, they said I can’t have any more taken for at least a week.

They weighed me and I’m currently 5.1 kilos (11.2 pounds) which is right on the lower limit of what a male Siamese should weigh. The vet suggested mum keeps an eye on my weight and as long as I don’t lose anymore, I’m okay. If anything changes though, I have to go back and be sedated again to have more blood taken and sent away for the thyroid test.

I think it’s pawesome because I’m being fed dry and wet food and my full allowance of daily treats, because mum desperately wants me to gain weight again!

April’s doing well today. She’s a silly thing – she just crunches up her tablets straight away. If I were her, I’d demand they were wrapped in something delicious. She has to have them for five days, then she has a break for five days and finally she will have to take the tablets for another three days before she goes back to be checked again at the vets.

So hopefully we’re both on our way to being purrfect again now. I’m going to make an effort to gain weight so I don’t have to go back until next year!

Hello April!

Thank you all again for your lovely wishes, we all really appreciate them.

Bisous, Bailey

  1. Bailey, sorry about the double vet visits, but very glad to hear that you don’t have that nasty parasite! Hopefully it is indeed just the heat and not any other reason for you to be losing weight. My fingers are crossed very hard for you. I’m sure that your Mum is very happy that April is crunching up her tablets though – far better than having to struggle with it. Be good and be well.

  2. Oh that nasty Giardia is what I had too! So happy that you don’t have it as well Bailey…..Sounds like Bailey is being very good about her medication though…….hopefully you’re alright now and will gain back some weight – I bet you just have been HOT and not feeling like eating as much! We have our “summer bodies” going for us!

    Hugs, Sammy

  3. Brave Bailey! Glad you are ok, and April is taking her pills. Poor mom!
I had the hyperthyroidism, and had a very expensive, nuclear medicine treatment, but it worked. Still up and down with weight, but sometimes I just don’t feel like eating much…I am going to be 16 at xmas! Montyx

  4. So sorry to hear you are poorley but eat well and pile on the weight thinking of you

  5. I am very, very glad to hear you don’t have a parasite and amazed that April is so agreeable about taking her medication.
    Purrs, my furiend, M =^.^=

Enjoy getting to eat lots of food 🙂 April is such a cutie, I hope she is better soon.

  7. Like that quick step, Bailey!

Great news. Maybe when April goes back for her re-test, you should have your thyroid test. It’s worth it, just to make sure you are totally OK! Pat

  8. Bailey that is great news that you don’t have that nasty parasite! Oh I know what you mean about “crunching away”….Dakota takes meds like they are delicious!! What’s WRONG with these woofies!!! Love, Cody catchatwithcarenandcody

  9. That’s great news, Bailey! But poor April. We hope she’s better soon.

  10. Yay! Good to hear you are A-OK!
    Enjoy eating 🙂
Purrs April will be better when the pills are done and not have to go through round 2.
    Purrs Georgia and Julie,
    Treasure and JJ

  11. Glad you are feeling better. I’m sure April is on her way to feeling better, too. Love that last picture of the two of you!!

  12. I hope everything is right with the both of you soon!

  13. I guess keeping things reasonably sterile and hygienic on a boat is something difficult to do! I must ask this very personal question, but, where does April ‘go’ when she has to, ditto Bailey, whilst on Nocturne?

  14. @ashleighsmeow says:

Our fur babies went to the vet too. We were very unimpressed! Get well soon!

  15. Yes, check thyroid. I had a dear furry friend who lived to be 18 1/2 and the last two years of her life she took thyroid meds: chicken flavored drops of liquid on her food 2x a day.

  16. Good to hear you don’t have a parasite! Let us know how you are getting on. Ask your mom to get you some kitten food to help you gain weight as it has more calories than regular cat food! I hope April feels better soon.

I'd love to hear what you think....
