Caturday Connections- Princess Mia

Welcome furiends to the next installment of Caturday Connections! This week I have the purrleasure of welcoming the beautiful Princess Mia from S/V Somewhere to tell us all about her life afloat. I hope you enjoy it!

1. Tell us a little bit about yourself.

Hi Bailey! My name is Princess Mia and I’m the youngest crew member onboard S/V Somewhere. I’m a snowshoe Siamese adopted by my humans from the Tree House Cat Shelter in Chicago. We left Kenosha, Wisconsin in June 2013 and have been sailing since. We’re currently on the island of Bonaire, but will be sailing to St. Croix soon. They have my favorite treats at the grocery store there. I believe that’s why we’re going.

2. How do you spend an average day of your life?

I typically wake up around 4 am when my brother, Buddy Bosun, wakes me up and chases me out of the bed. It’s his way of waking the humans up to feed us breakfast. We eat and wash up. The human picks up all of our toys that we get out through the night. My sister, Annabelle, and I like to toss the play mice around. Once the sun comes up the humans pull the hatch board and let us run around the decks. Buddy Bosun chases me then we settle down and watch seabirds and fish. Sometimes the fish jump right out of the water! We all go down for a nap once the sun gets too hot, but we do a lot of running around after dinnertime. I like to watch the sunsets.

3. What’s your favourite thing to do to?

My favorite thing to do is cuddle in bed at night with my human. Sometimes we watch a movie on TV. It’s my favorite time of day. I also like treat time before we go to bed.

4. Tell us about who you live with? Do you like them?

I live with my humans, Jim and Sharon, and the cat crew, Buddy and Annabelle. Buddy and Annabelle don’t much like each other. I try to get along with everyone.

5. Do you prefer spending time on land or on the boat?

I really like living on the boat. There are so many places to snuggle in for a nap. I love the space to run around. There are no dogs on the boat. That makes me very happy.

6. Where’s your favourite place on the boat?

I have so many favorite places on the boat, it’s hard to name just one. When we are sailing, I like to make a comfortable bed under the navigation station. At night, I like my human’s pillow. The cockpit cushions are nice to catch a cool evening breeze. When I want to be alone, I go to the V-berth.

7. I’m sorry to lower the tone, but as a boat cat myself one of the top questions I get asked is…Do you ever get sea-sick?

I don’t get seasick, but Annabelle does. The humans have medicine for her.

8. What’s the strangest thing you’ve ever seen whilst sailing?

The strangest thing I’ve ever seen was awhile back when we were in the St. Lawrence Seaway. The humans had just dropped anchor and let us come out to play. A little seal came up to investigate. I leaned over the edge to look at him and he stared right at me until he screamed and swam away.

9. What’s the worst thing you’ve ever done? (Don’t be shy it’s good to get it out in the open.)

I’m usually the good crew member, I could tell you plenty about Annabelle and Buddy, though. But this is my interview, so I guess I’ll admit to throwing up a hairball on my human’s iphone. She wasn’t pleased.

10. What do you think your next big adventure in life will be?

I have no idea what the next adventure will be. Maybe a ride in an airplane? I’m not sure.

11. If somebody asked you for advice and you only had a few minutes to give them your best tip, what would it be?

My best advice to any boat cat or soon to be boat cat is find your happy place on the boat. Sometimes sailing can get rough and it helps to keep from getting afraid if you have your comfortable, happy place!

12. Do you have a website or social media channel where we can follow your future adventures?

My humans have a blog and sometimes she writes about her Cat Crew. She even let us do a guest entry when we were in Montreal the summer of 2013. Maybe she’ll do that again.

Thanks, Bailey!
Have a purrfect day!

Thank you Mia your life sounds like so much fun and I hope you enjoy your treats when you get to St. Croix! I’d also like to thank your humans for the pawesome photos. I wish you and all of you family fair winds and fishy feasts!

Happy Caturday evfurryone!

Bisous, Bailey

A whole crew of cats! It must be very entertaining on board. I like the term “snow shoe Siamese” I never heard it described that way. Maybe Bailey should get a little brother or sister. The furball on the Iphone made my human laugh
