K9 Rescue training in our marina!

Furiends as I said yesterday we were all really entertained on Sunday at our marina beach because…the K9 rescue team were training!

My humans spoke to one of the ladies and these pawesome dogs have been training from between two and three years! They were sooo excited about getting into the water and were really barking at their humans to hurry up as they put on their wetsuits!

Once they got in the water, they were breathtaking.

They were practicing towing fake casualties back to the beach and the speed and power they displayed left all of us very impressed.

Unfortunately the trainer we spoke to said they no longer receive funding from the Italian government but they patrol a 9km stretch of the coast near where we live, that doesn’t have any lifeguards. I think whoever has the fortune to share a beach with these clever K9s should count themselves very lucky!

Clever K9

  1. Beautiful dogs! Unfortunate that the government will not fund something so helpful to the communities.

  2. Wow Bailey those are some very brave doggies. Do you know what kind they are!

  3. Yes, that dog breed has a name…can’t remember what it is tho….do you know

  4. Riley Cat says:

They look like Newfoundland dogs. But I could be wrong, but they are gorgeous!!! Thanks for sharing Bailey!

  5. Ann Newman says:

There was a dog called Bilbo Jmo who used to look after the people at Sennen in Cornwall. A Newfoundland too I think.

  6. Big beautiful dogs! You were brave being near such big pups! Monty xx

  7. What wonderful brave dogs and people!

  8. Weird Guy With The Dog says:

I believe that is a Newfoundland. Very strong and excellent swimmers. Watch out Bailey, they could fit you in their mouth! PS: Don’t worry…I had one and they are friendly with cats!

  9. What a great thing to see! Wonderful of the people and the dogs doing something so needed. What a sad thing that the government won’t fund something useful.

  10. What a bummer that the government won’t fund this anymore – they sound really valuable!

  11. What smart, beautiful doggies! They are very brave and courageous, too.

    Love and licks,

  12. Great story.
So good that these dogs patrol even without funding.
Governments are not always smart :/

  13. Amazing dogs! They’re huge – I guess they could drag a person to shore!!

  14. Wow I never knew they train dogs for water rescues!

  15. Bailey, these Newfies are pawsome! We know the Italian Coast Guard uses Newfs, so this must be a private group? They are the best rescue dogs in the world! pat

What an exciting day for you! These are beautiful dogs!

  17. kittiesblue says:

What gorgeous woofies. What is their breed, Bailey? They look like a cross between St. Bernard and something, but we can’t figure out that something. Bet they were really fun to watch as they went through their paces. XOCK from your brofur and sisfurs, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo
