I’ve broken a bone or my dew claw but it’s not slowing me down!

Well furiends when we arrived at the vet yesterday it was closed! We didn’t realise it was a holiday here in Rome. Since it certainly wasn’t an emergency we waited and went back this morning. It was an eventful morning.

When I went in I met a dog. We were getting along fine until she tried to sniff me and so of course I had to swipe at her to tell her to keep her distance! She was then taken into the room of needles.

Be gone dog!

I took the opportunity of being the only four-legged being in the room to sniff around the waiting area.

At the vets

Exploring

Then it was very sad, an extremely poorly dog was carried in and I was very worried about him so I let him go in front of me. He was helped to cross over to the rainbow bridge and my human shed a tear for him and his elderly owner who needed a hug.

A new furry angel

When it was my turn to see the vet I’d almost forgotten why we were there until I saw him getting out the dreaded needle! He gave me my vaccinations and rabies jab (yes two different needle stabs!) I yowled to make it stop so it was over quite quickly thankfully. After my jabs the vet picked up my poorly paw and started prodding and playing with it. I’m not proud of this but I was still in shock from the stabbing and I tried to bite him. He was quick though and moved out of the way, so I settled for a really good hiss. My mum had to hold me and show the vet where she thought there might be a cyst. The vet said he thinks I might have either broken a small bone there or broken my dew claw. The only way to know would be to put me to sleep and take an x-ray. However, since there’s not much they can do even after confirming what I’ve actually done and because I’m walking normally, he said the best option is to leave it heal on it’s own over the next three to four weeks. Then I will have to go back for a check up.

Needle room

Mum was concerned that I’ve been licking it a lot but the vet said apart from wearing a cone there’s no way to stop that and I’m not going to do it any harm. So he’s spared me the humiliation of wearing a cone… I regret trying to bite him now. He did tell her to stop me walking too much though which I didn’t appreciate, but at least she has no clue how to stop me moving anyway, so I think I’m safe on that front!

I think I probably hurt my paw when I leaped of the boat the other day into the boat yard… It hasn’t put me off though, given half a chance I’d do it again!

Bisous, Bailey

  6. Oh, Bailey, so sorry that you have a paw injury. And that is so sad that the poor little pup had to go over the bridge. My Motor Mommy had that happen one time: she was at the vet’s when an elderly lady had the same thing happen to her dog. Mommy gave her a hug and cried a tear with her too.
Take care of your paw, Bailey: you want it to be all well when you go back for your checkup!

  7. I thought the same thing Bailey, that leap to the ground from the deck was just too far! I hope you heal quickly, and sorry about the little dog. ‘Room of Needles’ has me chuckling, sorry Bailey. 😉

  8. aww, Bailey so sorry to hear that you have really hurt your paw. I think you might need to rethink jumping off the boat – that is a high spot to a hard landing. I’m glad though that you took your shots well and that you should heal up with a bit of rest and all the love that I’m sure your Mum will give you.

so sorry to hear about the dog having to cross over the rainbow bridge. that is always a sad time for everyone and I’m glad your Mum offered what comfort she could. Be safe & chill out!

What a kind kitten you are. I am glad they don’t need to do surgery. The new kind of “cone” is an inflatable tube around your neck. It’s like having a build in pillow. Just in case they try the cone.

  16. Poor guy. I’m so sorry for your claw my friend. I hope it heals quickly. And yes you were brave at the vet’s office. Those vet doctors are getting quick these days avoiding bites and nibbles. Way to go to the vet doctor! XOXO – Bacon
P.S. It was nice of you to let the other dog go first. We felt sorry for him and his family too.

  17. Good to hear nothing is too serious Bailey. You are sounding very much like Bengie at the vet: she growls, hisses and is not averse to biting – absolutely hates the place!

Ugh…you had 2 vaccines at once? Mom had me do that last year and I became very ill, hoping that doesn’t happen to you!
I also hope your dew claw/paw heals on it’s own for sure! Love, Cody
