Rose the Tamar Lifeboat

The Lizard Lifeboat station have a Tamar class lifeboat called Rose. The Tamar lifeboats are the newest all-weather lifeboats in the fleet.

They have a computerised Systems and Information Management System (SIMS) so that the crew can access many of the onboard controls for navigation and controlling the lifeboat remotely meaning they can stay in their seats for longer. They also have access to the SIMS outside.

Rose is 16.3 metres with a beam of 5.3 metres. She’s 32 tonnes and can race to an emergency at 25 knots. The crew kindly showed visitors around at the open day and answered many questions. My humans were really impressed with how modern she is and loved the engine room.

The Tamar lifeboats have 2 caterpillar C18 marine diesel engines. They’re very powerful! The crew are grateful to now have shock-mitigating seats which enhances their comfort and safety.

I think the seats look very comfy, I’d love to try them out. I’m so excited because I’ve very kindly been invited to go and have a special look around… I’m hoping that next year the humans and I can arrange a visit. Imagine all the hiding places I could check out on Rose!

  3. That lifeboat is so modern and COOL. Thank you for showing us around. We bet you will be the only kitty who gets an invitation to look around in person. We can’t wait for you to have the opportunity to visit. Just don’t touch anything or hide anywhere you can’t be found. Purrs and hugs from all you sisfurs and your brofur, Lily Olivia, Misty May, Mauricio, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo

  4. Wow! That’s a lifeboat?! My human is still thinking of them as those flimsy things hanging off the side of the Titanic! Obviously, they have come a long way in the past, oh, hundred or so years! 😉

  6. What a lovely name for the lifeboat! And YES – lots of hidey spots available on that boat to explore – the seats look a lot like they should be on a spaceship!!!

  8. That is an awesome boat Bailey and I agree with the crew shock mitigating seats are a must…people don’t realise how hard water is!! just because it’s a liquid…had many a nasty back ache from rough seas..not to mention nearly dying after my less than smart father thought flooring a speedboat while I was on a donut was hilarious! got slammed into the water and if not for a life jacket would have drowned..i couldn’t breathe..my whole waist area the next day was black and blue..Water is like a rock!! Have a great day Bailey Hugs Fozziemum xxx

That was very interesting, Bailey. Good to know there is such a system in place for when ended.
