Evening swim…

Well the humans have been for several swims since we’ve been out here enjoying our holiday. Last night I got quite flustered and decided hey you only live once and I just leapt in off the bow!

I don’t really know what possessed me to make such a spectacle of myself in a busy weekend anchorage here in Ponza. I did two laps of Nocturne before I allowed myself to be pulled back onboard very un-elegantly by dad, who grabbed me by the scruff.

I was treated to a shower so that I didn’t have to lick off all the salt and then I preened myself until my fur was all fluffy. As you all know, I’m very brave on the boat and on several occasions I’ve heard the humans laughing and taunting ‘Bailey you’ll fall in’. So I guess I just wanted to prove that if I go for a swim… It’s on my terms!

  2. My goodness Bailey! Now that’s very brave of you – I guess watching your humans swimming inspired you to give it a try huh? Did you have your life jacket on at the time? Twice around the boat is a pretty good swim – I bet you took a grand nap after that bath and clean-up!!!

  5. 😀 Oh Bailey, you silly thing. Well, at least we all now know you can swim, if need be, although I’m imagining you’ll be doing your utmost to avoid such an adventure in the future

  6. Fascinating! Sounds like a case of monkey-see-monkey-do! (Side note to your mum: wouldn’t it be amazing to know what went through his mind just before (and after!) he leapt in?!)

  9. Bailey, get your dad to buy a very thick line and hang it off the sides of your boat. Our dad bought a length of line that had been used to tie up naval vessels (about 3″diameter). Our mum hung it from the loft in our house and taught us to climb up it. Then they took it to our lovely boat. Whenever we are at anchor they hang the rope over the sides (one on port, one on starboard). Last summer all four of us got to do “cat overboard” drills. We each had three turns at jumping overboard and swimming to the rope. It was fun (except Jake made a spectacle of himself by howling the entire time). Now we know what to do if we ever fall overboard. Mum says we all get to practice again when we finally move on to our boat to begin our cruising lifestyle next September. Once our dad has our webblog (Cruising with Cats) ready we’ll post some photos. Your kitty friends from s/v Ahmeek, Sammy, Jake, Moki, and Scout.

    • Hey SV Ahmeek! Yes we’ve already thought about the lines… We have a towel in at anchor at the moment but it can be a pain. I’ve never done drills… Dad wants to but mum keeps holding him off. Maybe if we get a proper rope ladder I’ll try. Poor Jake doesn’t like the water much then?! That’s pawesome you’re off in September! Have you got a route yet? We’re planning to leave and go cruising full time at the end of 2014. Bisous Bailey

Good grief Bailey, what were you thinking!?!!? How long did it take you to dry out. I’m a seal point Ragdoll with really long fur, it would take me forever to dry out. I think I will stay in our boat! Your furry friend, Chloe.

    • Hi Chloe! It took a couple of hours! When I fell in in the marina mum helped me with the hairdryer but out on anchor I had to do all the hard work myself! Where is your boat? =^.^=

Sorry for the delay, my mom and dad took Lilly and I to the States for awhile, because they were expecting two new grand babies. I saw both of them and really do not know what all of the fuss is about.

We have just returned to Smart Move (our boat). Lilly and I share it with our human Mom and Dad. Lilly is a 17 year old long hair calico — probably a Maine Coon mix. We are not sure since mom picked her out of a box of kittens in front of the grocery store years ago.

Smart Move is in Puerto Rico and has been on the hard while we were gone. She splashed back into the water today and we will be aboard in the morning — I am very excited. On Monday we start sailing down island for Grenada where we will spend September and October. We are planning to cross the Pond next May-June for the Med.

  14. We assume you were not wearing your new, fancy life vest. Mom says she’d be freaking out if any of us did that. Glad you also had a shower. That much salt would not be good for you! Purrs and hugs, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Josette
