Sail repair.

When we lowered the sails yesterday I spotted that we had a sign of wear along the seam of the leech.

This is obviously not good! We put it down to regular wear and tear, however, to prolong the life of the sail and to prevent any further damage we decided to repair it. We put a patch of Dacron over the area and stuck it down with sailmakers secret tape (double sided polyester sailmakers seam tape).

I let dad do the actual sticking part because I didn’t want to get my fur caught on it… It’s super sticky stuff! I checked it over afterwards though and it’s impossible to pull any away with your paw, I couldn’t even get a claw underneath it!

So now it’s almost as good as new. Regular checks on the sails are important, and since our sails are in need of a good wash I’ll be inspecting them thoroughly very soon.

  1. Bailey – I really admire you being on the boat that’s on top of water that’s out in the middle of sea that’s in nature. Shivers just thinking about all of that nature! Do you ever go for a dunk in the water with sea life? Inquiring pig minds have to know. Oink – XOXO – Bacon

  8. Good for you Bailey, being such a great supervisor. I think I need some of that tape though. Sounds fabulous for fixing all sorts of things. Sewing is not my strength but I’m guessing I could mend all sorts of things with that!

  12. You have sharp eyes Bailey. I have been looking up some sailing terms and I have learned that there is something called a whisker pole. Do you have one on your Nocturne? Surely a boat cat needs a whisker pole!
