As you know my humans and I have been excitedly looking forward to our holidays in May. The humans have been looking as far ahead as possible at the weather forecast.
We would ideally love a beam reach in a northwest force 3-4, which would enable a nice trip from our marina in Rome down to Ponza. The humans regularly use our Furuno Navtex to see local warnings and forecasts…
They also like using passageweather.com to check out what’s going on. The furthest they can see with any kind of accuracy at the moment is about the 5th May, and they say it’s looking good so far!
The Mediterranean is notorious for fast changing weather patterns and choppy water. Last year the humans and I learnt the hard way to always be prepared. Everything has to be stowed, we leave nothing on deck that’s not sacrificial because it might end up overboard. Last year we had an interesting few minutes when we realised the bicycle tyre was jamming the jib furling line, so we won’t be making that mistake again!
To be honest all these weather forecasts are great to keep the humans occupied and the charts sure look pretty with all the fancy lines, but the only true way to be sure of a safe passage is to trust your instincts and follow your nose!
Bisous Bailey
You’re EVER so smart Bailey……I think you should pass that advice on to your humans – following your nose is ALWAYS the best thing!!

It’s interesting when you share your technical knowledge about things like this with us, even if we don’t understand it. It’s neat to get a glimpse into another world, and this boat stuff is another world. Please keep that up! And have smoooooth sailing!

I don’t know why mom listens to those weather people, my sister and I have a much better sense of the weather than they do and I am sure cats do too…I have to ask my cats about that.

Wow, what a lucky kitty you are Bailey, you will be on Nocturne really soon! We had to leave our beloved Smart Move a month ago so our humans could be home for the birth of their two newest grandchildren. We really don’t understand what all the fuss is about. We are looking forward to our return to Puerto Rico and Smart Move at the end of June when we will continue our adventures! Fair winds and following seas Bailey, have a great holiday! Great blog by the way, our mom won’t let’s us write on our blog, but we are going to keep working on her. Lilly and Chloe

Farley here – my humans spend way too much time looking at weather data when they should be walking me, or petting me, or telling me how great I am. To be honest, I’m getting a little annoyed with this obsession. When the weather is bad, I go down below and hide. What’s the big deal?
