Bataille de Fleurs

The ‘Bataile de Fleurs’ is an annual event that takes place during the Nice Carnival along the Promenade des Anglais on the French Riviera. It literally means ‘battle of the flowers’ and is a one of a kind flower parade, showcasing some of the beautiful flowers that grow in the South of France.

Yesterday mum and Elizabeth went to enjoy the event.

Models in colourful and exotic costumes, were throwing a selection of flowers into the crowds of people.

Mum came home with some pretty little flowers and put them in a glass high up so we could look at them but not get to them. Then in the middle of the night, out of nowhere a magical gust of wind came through the flat and they smashed on the floor!

Such a shame! Mum should have put them lower down so I could’ve protected them! We cleaned up in the early hours of the morning and now the flowers are in a new glass, braving the elements on the balcony!

Wow – that was an amazing parade! Thank your mom for sharing pictures. And…a magical gust of wind…. hmmmm… is that your story, Bailey? Are you sticking to it??? ;)

Nice of your mom to bring home some flowers for you. And, those indoor winds can get to be quite strong in the middle of the night.

  3. Jessica says:

Those indoor winds sure are a problem here too. Sadly it means I just refrain from having flowers about, to my mother-in-law’s sadness. She loves to have flowers out to brighten a room and once bought me a very beautiful vase for displaying arrangements but I just can’t risk it. Even the vase is only marginally safe on our highest shelf. Those winds just come out of nowhere sometimes! :-)

  4. Bailey! Now now now…

  5. Sparkle says:

Wow, those magical gusts of wind can certainly create havoc….

  6. Lovely!!

I looooove the south of France and hope I can come back there soon!!

  7. What fabulous costumes…and a curious mystery about the broken vase…!

  8. That looks like a really colorful and beautiful event. Thanks for sharing your photos. Purrs and hugs, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Josette

  9. We read all about this festival recently and it’s so good to see some photos. What a marvellous event!

Beautiful! It’s good you didn’t cut yourself when the flowers…..ugh, blew down.

  11. John says:

Beautiful parade in a great place Bailey! Are you sure the wind knocked the flowers over??

  12. Emmadog says:

Interesting photos…I think as a dog I would have been spooked. Bummer with the flowers. Mom is happy she can finally have flowers again. For years she had a cat that would tip over the vase and chew them no matter where mom put them so she just never had flowers but my cats now leave them alone.

  13. Nylabluesmum says:

Oh Bailey….what a lovely parade & the flowers are beautiful as are the costumes!!!! Very very whimsical!!!
We have had ‘indoor wind’ here also in the past hence why flowers are always bought during summer time so they can be outside overnight ;)
    Love from sherri-Ellen & Nylablue.

  14. Dianda says:

That event looks like so much fun! The pictures are great!

  15. Gallivanta says:

Bailey you are so interested in flowers. Your mother needs to keep a wee vase of flowers near your sleeping box or maybe a wee bit of catnip under your pillow.

  16. That looks amazing!

I'd love to hear what you think....
